Use Bed Risers To Make Extra Space In A Crowded Bed Room

Updated on April 28, 2013

Adding Extra Space Under The Bed With Bed Risers

To create storage space in a small room and to make sure my house did not feel cluttered I researched about adding bed risers to my bed to create space. Because I have children and pets I was worried about their safety and if my bed was to heavy to use bed risers with. I really like the idea of a higher bed and new found storage area but did not want to risk any accidents.

I found Bed Risers to be an effective and low cost way to make needed storage space in my crowded room. I also discovered that with using the right bed risers with proper care would not become a safety issue for my kids and pets. After buying my bed risers I am happy with the amount of extra space I have and feel my bed is safe and secure.

Metal Bed Risers

Metal frame bed risers can be as strong or stronger then the original bed legs. Some of the metal risers are build to be extensions of the current bed, while others are taller or adjustable legs and made to replace on a bed to make it taller.

Adjustable Bed Risers

Adjustable bed risers are usually inserted between the bed frame and the original leg. They are great to use on beds that you still want to use the wheels or that you are unsure just how high you want your bed.

Is Bed Risers Safe For Kids Rooms?

While most bed riser manufacturers do not have warnings not to put risers on kids beds, most do say that risers should not be used on a bed that is excessively jumped on. So it best to use common sense when using bed risers on a kids bed, if your kid does a lot of rough play on the bed, bed risers or tall bed risers may not be appropriate.

Steel Bed Risers

Steel bed risers are more expensive then plastic ones but are more sturdy and can last a lot long. Most steal bed risers are more limited of what type of bed posts they can be used with, so its important to double check your bed post before ordering.

Risers For Metal Bed Frames

Best Bed Risers

If your bed frame is metal it is better to use either a metal bed riser or a very heavy duty plastic bed riser.

Wood risers would be fine for most, but eventually over time the metal bed frame will create groves in wooden risers that could make the bed a tad uneven.

I used a bed riser that was made out of a very heavy plastic material and it has kept up with no signs of wear or issues for over three years.

Wooden Bed Risers

Many wooden bed risers are stack-able and can be found in a variety of wood finishes. While many wood risers are considered to be strong its important to regularly check risers for cracks.

See Through Or Clear Bed Risers

See through and clear bed risers are great when you can not find bed risers that match well with your bed. They also can look like the bed is levitating when used on some solid beds.

Should You Put Risers On Heavy Beds?

When buying bed risers make sure to match up your bed to the right riser. Always look a the restrictions placed on the risers before using, these are not suggestions. Never use a riser that is not built for how you are using it.

Heavy Duty Bed Risers For Dorms and Heavy Beds

Many dorm rooms only allow a student to use heavy duty bed risers in the dorm room. It's important to find out what type of risers can be used to be sure not to run into problems later on.

How High Can You Lift Bed With Bed Risers?

Have seen bed risers that rise the bed up to 17 inches high off the floor. Some stack-able bed risers claim you lift the bed up to 20 inches off the ground. When buying the risers that you want to raise your bed up extra high always check for weight and height limit. Avoid buying plastic bed risers for extra tall bed rising, because they may be more likely to crack.

Extra Tall Bed Risers

When looking to raise a bed up from the ground more then the normal bed riser, it is important to buy extra tall bed risers or risers that are meant to be stacked. "Fixing" bed risers so the go higher then they was made to go is a very risky safety hazard, while using bed risers is safe you must keep it safe by avoid safety hazards.

How To Make Your Own Bed Risers - Simple Solutions To Raising Your Bed

Bed Risers can be made at home if you have simple construction skill and the tools to work with. Or you can simply use other material laying around to create extra height to your bed. I have seen students in dorm rooms use various things to raise their bed including cinder blocks and sturdy desks and shelves.

Under Bed Storage Container - The No Mess Way To Store Things Under Your Bed

This storage container is meant specifically to be used under the bed. It has zippered tops and mesh side packets with handles for easy carrying.

Under Bed Shoe Organizer

This Under the bed shoe organizer is clear so you can see where your shoes are and can be hung down past the mattress if the bed is high enough.

Round Bed Risers

If you have a round bed pole to keep your look you may want to use round bed risers. If not you could easily hide the let with a bed skirt.

Bed Riser Safety:

*Make sure the riser is built to hold the type of bed your using.

*Only stack bed risers when they are designed to be used that way.

*Bed risers are not meant to lift just one side of the bed. Use bed recliner inserts instead.
